Visual Story Cook Book
Katie Shelley transformed 50 recipes into sketches that explain how to prepare them.
“One of my goals for this book is to encourage people to just let go of rigid kitchen rules and be loose and free about cooking. The charm of the illustrations is great for its own sake, but it’s also performing a real function in helping make cooking feel easy, lighthearted, and do-able,” Shelly writes. “So what if you mess up? Once things get too serious, the drawings stop being inviting and start seeming intimidating. Like how people feel so oppressed by Ikea diagrams.”
Her book ‘Picture Cook’ will be available in Octobre 2013 but you can already pre-order it.

One of the Culinerds (Anna) is lucky enough at work to be sitting between two extremely food-loving guys (Hei-Yu and Wang) for years now. Whenever there has been an event like a wedding, new years or other holidays they talk about all the great food they have been eating. Although it is always good to hear about good food it is even better to try it yourself. Therefore Hei-Yu and Wang organised a real chinese dinner so we all could try some of these amazing dishes.
It was time for the Culinerds to also get to experience this epic cantonese cuisine. On a cold evening in February it was time to feast at an Epic Chinese Dinner!
The dinner was at Oriental City Amsterdam, (the place to eat great cantonese dishes) where they prepared a very special dinner for the guests of Wang and Hei-Yu.
The awesome menu:
1. Roasted Peking Duck with Pancakes
2. Roasted Suckling Pick with Jelly Fish
3. Steamed Scallops with Garlic and Chinese Vermicelli
4. Char Siu and Roasted Pork Belly
5. Lobster with Yee Mein Noodles
6. Stir-fried Kai Lan
7. Salt Pepper Squid
8. Asparagus with Roasted Duck
9. Chinese Sweet and Sour Spareribs
Nomnomnom…. most certainly a night our taste buds won’t forget soon! Thanks to Hei-Yu & Wang :)
Lovely Pen Drawing Restaurants
Years ago one of our great colleagues from Arup, Giulio Antonutto-Foi, started to work on these fabulous little booklets with his own pen-drawings. Being a food-loving Italian, every restaurant he visits is captured in a beautiful little drawing and later on filled in with watercolor. He writes down the name of the restaurant and whether the food was any good. The booklets are a feast to the eye and a great resource of good restaurants. If we could only draw that well….
